On the 10th on May, the seniors of our school including myself got the opportunity to go sailing at Okahu Bay. Thanks to our sponsors St Johns Rotary and Yachting New Zealand for giving us this big opportunity.
When we arrived we met our instructors Holly, Robbie and Kim. We were told to find a person to be partner together with, then we all gathered around the sailing boats. The challenge was to assemble our own sails. We were only shown an example of what the boat was to look like.
Quite a while later with some help from our instructors my partner and I ended up finishing. We learnt some important names of parts of the boat.
After that we had a little morning tea break before we headed of to change into our togs, life jacket and swim suit .
Then we slowly headed down to sea with our sail. We were linked up to six boats with ropes and one of our instructors Holly had the front of the rope we did this before we left shore. Holly dragged us all behind her inflatable speed boat. We went quite fast and it was fun. We played games for a while and had the opportunity to sail with no ropes linking us to other boats.
We then had lunch, then we went back to sea and had a challenge to circle around two pink balls at two different places and play ball tiggy which was so fun. We sailed around for a while before we left.
Thank you St Johns Rotary and Yachting New Zealand
